Does anyone know the opening and closing times for Lums Pond? Is it dawn/dusk? I know next weeks tournament starts at 7, but I can't find any times listed other than the park time of 8am. I also read another club had a tournament there with a start time of 5:30AM.
Thinking of doing a little scouting tomorrow and would like to start as early as possible.

I had a question about the idle rule as well. How fast is no wake? It there like a speed limit or something? |

I've been there at 5 AM in the pitchdark no one around. I don't think they really have an open time.
As for the idle speed have to be going no more than 6 mph I believe long as you're not creating a wake

Thanks Bob. I also remember launching in the dark quite a few years ago.
Not sure what that means either Jackson. I make a wake at 2 mph and less the faster I go. You probably have the same issue. Lots of stumps and trees anyway so slow is probably a lot safer (and possibly cheaper). |

There is a certain point where ur wake turns from a small ripple to enough to rock a dock. It not that complicated, well maybe it is idk. My dad had me running his 21 center console out townsends inlet by age 10. Had to stand on a tackle box to see over the bow lol. I can answer any questions that morning.
Also the park entrance that opens at 8 is totally different than the boat ramp entrance. They are on opposite sides of the lake. When I looked up the address last year I accidentally got the one for the park and ended up waiting at the gate wondering why noone else was there lol

Thanks Dan. The boat just isn't built for going slow. It doesn't plane well at a slow speed, so the nose is always up creating the larger wake. Trolling motor was enough for me anyway, but running down the middle is an option.
A little info from today's outing...
Easiest-no toll directions - 95 S to 1 S to 72 N to 71 S (Red Lion Rd). The parking lot is on the right, a mile or so down from the General Store.
The ramp and parking lot is open at all times, but you have to be actively fishing. The ramp is real shallow, so bring your waders.
There is a ton of stumps/trees/laydowns in the water. Charted water as deep as 11 feet in the middle. Also, it wasn't as dirty as I remember or have read about.
I found water temps from 68 to 73 degrees! Thought they would be active but ended up with just a couple small ones and some other various fish.
Oh, and there is a daily fee of $6 for non-residents, however I noticed that I was the only one that paid.

Nice report
I still dont get it Dan, my trolling motor creates enough wake to rock a dock. |

I couldn't believe it myself, but when I put my hands in the water, it was clearly as warm as the air.

Thanks for the notice Rob and good luck moving into the new house.
Note: The Modified start times for this weeks LUMS Pond Start time. We will now be starting at 6AM-2PM for this Sat. April 20, 2013.
The last couple of days, it has been pretty bright outside at 6:15AM. So trying to take advantage of the early bite and low light conditions, we will be on the water by 6AM and hopefully trolling to our spots by 6:01AM. LOL!!
If anglers get there earlier than me or Jay, and if there is someone to check your livewell before putting in...then by all means...launch your boats and we'll settle up the Tournament fee before the end of the day.
I hope this message reaches all as I know not everybody checks in as regularly.
Note: I also changed the Malaga Lake Paper Tournament Start time in May to also start at 6AM
Hope to see many members this Saturday!!
