Me and my little brother (big856k) decided to go down and pre fish the flats for the fed tx on Sunday. We arrived at Anchor Marina at around 7:30am Saturday morning. Launched the boat and said to myself, "its gonna be a good day". Little did i know, we would almost meet our maker. We ran to Cara Cove and to Furnace Bay with no luck. The boat was running great. We decided to make the run to the Saffafrass, which is where i have been doing really good the last few weeks. We get out into the main bay and are net with 2-3ft waves. I looked over at my brother and said. "wow, I think this is the calmest ive ever seen it out here, lol" We both agreed that it wasnt to rough out so we continued on. We just made it past Elk Neck point when my brother says, " Oh sh!t, why is there so much water in the boat". I look down to see there is water on the floor. We were taking some splashes over the bow every few waves so i just said it must be from that. Right as as was about to tell him its fine, I see a 1ft x 3ft section of the left side of the boat rip off and go flying. We both looked at each other and said oh phuck. he looks over the side of the boat and looks back at me like he just saw a ghost. He says, " the side of your boat is gone". As he says that we were still going about 30mph. As we came down a wave i hear a loud crunch and see water just pouring in thru the side of the hull. The first thing i thought was where is the closest land. I look around only to see that im about 1/4-1/2 mile from the closest shore. As im looking around the boat is steadily slowing down. I started to get a little scared at this point and didnt really know what to do. I then told my brother, "phuck it, we are going down but im going to get us as close to shore as possible so we dont have far to swim" i then hit the throttle to the floor only to not gain any speed at all. It seemed like the harder i hit the gas the more the hull just dug in. At this point, the water in the boat is just about up to the steering wheel and we were still a good 300 yards from shore. With the motor at full throttle, we came to a crawl, and I told my brother that when the engine stalls from taking in water, we are going to jump off and swim for it. Now im not really a holy man and i dont go to church, but i really cant explain what happened next. Just as i was standing up to jump out of the boat cuz we were no longer moving forward, all of a sudden it was like the motor got a shot of nitrous or something cuz the boat lifted out of the water and damn near got on plane. Before i knew it we were about 50ft from shore going about 15mph. I looked over at my brother and told him to hold on cuz i was going to hit the beach as fast as we could. we hit the beach and the boat slid up onto the sand and came to rest almost all the way out of the water. We looked over at each other in shock that we actually made it to land. Now came the fun part.
When i ran on shore, there was a house right in front of where we were. I walked up and knocked on the door, but no one was home. Luckily i had my cell phone in a water proof bag, so i took it out and made a very emotional call to my fiance and kids. After calling home, i walked over to my brother and said " u stay here, i'm going to get some help" i then walked down the driveway of the house where i beached the boat. After about a 20 minute walk i came to a long paved road with no houses for as far as i could see. My plan was to go to the nearest house and ask for a ride back to Anchor. With no houses in site, i looked on my phone at google maps to see where i was. I soon realized that I was in the middle of a wildlife preserve and the next nearest house was a few miles away. I decided to call 411 and ask for the nearest taxi service. I called the taxi place and told them where i was and where i wanted to go. The lady on the phone paused for a second and said it would be $140. I said " $140 for a 15 minute ride?" She laughed and said " i dont know what your talking about but its a 45 minute drive at least. I hung up and looked back at my phone on google earth and soon realized that i was alot further away from Anchor than i thought. I said to myself that there has to be a cheaper way and just continued to walk. After about 15 minutes of walking i finally see a car and wave it down. Luckily for me it was a sort of hippie guy and he told me to hop in. He asked where i was going and when i told him he looked at me like i was crazy. i said look, i will give u $50 to bring me there and he said ok. the car ride was pretty uneventful, except for every 10 minutes or so a beeping sound would go off and he would have to blow into a breathalizer type thing that was hooked to his ignition. he said he had a few DUI's in the pat and this was the only way the state would let him drive. I have only heard of these things before. well he drops me off and i give him the money. i call my brother and tell him im on my way.
Atfer about 45 minutes, i get back to my brother. Now comes the fun part, trying to figure out how to get the boat on the trailer. Where i beached the boat, there was an about 5ft tall bulkhead seperating the beach and the backyard of the house. after some debate we find 2 pieces of wood and prop them up against the bulkhead. My brother backs down the backyard and back the trailer right up to the bulkhead. we tried to crank the boat on the trailer, but it was to hard to crank up. i said phuck it, the boat is already ruined lets just drag it up. so we hooked a tow strap to the trailer and the boat and proceed to drag the boat up the bulkhead and on to the grass. after the boat was on the grass we finally was able to crank the boat on the trailer. we left out of there giving each other high fives. here are some pics of our adventure. i still dont know what happened to the hull. it looks like the layers of fiberglass just started to peel apart. i just wish i would have gotten full coverage insurance and not liability insurance
pic of the boat beached

heres a few pics of how we got the boat out

heres a few pics of the boat on the trailer

i have a few more pics i will post later |

Sorry about the boat man... You guys really lucked out... that strech of water is a muther....
I ran out there Sunday in the morning before the wind really picked up, and it was 2-3 feet steady chop! My trolling motor foot pedal shimmied back to the back of the front deck and pulled the cord right out of the plug! I had to rewire my TM right there on the water. Cost me about 20 minutes... When I left the Sass I stode all my rods and battened down the hatches for the right back! I even tied down my foot pedal with one of my marker boey strings! I'm glad I did because coming back in the wind and the boat traffic I got rocked a few times, but with more time under my belt from fishing the Potomac and the Bass Bowl last year. I was able to use some of the tricks I learned an tack to and fro through some monster waves... I couldn't even amagine my boat falling apart out there... Some body up there likes you guys! Way to keep your head Kyle!
BTW thanks for the tip, I don't think I would have done so well without your advice!!!

glad your both ok.were there tire tracks going through the guys lawn?
believe it or not, u couldnt tell anything even happened to the guys lawn/property. the only damage was a chunk of grass about 1ft x 1ft got ripped out when the boat rolled back off the trailer when we were trying to put it on, but i put the chuck of grass back in place. unless somebody told them where to look, they will never notice |

Repaired? You gotta be kidding Drew....
With it coming apart at the seams and the hulls age, I'm not even sure if it's worth repairing. Besides, I would be very hesitant to trust that vessel back on the water.
I think it's time for Kyle to upgrade and search for a new boat....
Glad everythig worked out for you and your brother Kyle!!!
