Another trolling motor question...
Crappie Jon
So i have a guy thats interested in trading a brand new minn kota edge bow mount foot control still in the plastic for my riptide. Great, well not exactly. He originally told me that it was a 55lb thrust, but he returned home and checked it, its actually a 45lb thrust. My concern is that in high winds or hard running tides, my 55lb gets overpowered. Would a 45lb be noticably less powerful than my 55lb, or would i barely notice? Personally i feel that i shouldnt go for the lower thrust and keep at it but i figured id ask here first. Thanks guys

jimbo
I would hold out for some more thrust... The riptide is a real nice unit! Was he throwing in any extra cash?

nope. thats why i didnt bite. i never thought this thing would last 2 months on craigslist. i really like the motor but with the hand control its virtually impossible to throw a reaction bait and run the boat at the same time

fishintroop
I hold out like Jimbo said. How much you asking for the Riptide? Maybe you need to drop the price a bit

Crappie,
I would agree with Troop and Jimbo. I have an Minn Kota Endura 55lb Trust Transom motor (which can also be converted) to a Bow TM.

Although only a 10lb difference, that can be the difference when the weather blows pretty hard. Just ask Bass Hopper Brian S. when he stayed out in the opening last year or two on Union Lake....while most sought the cover of a protected cove. whaaa

With the Higher trust and your power settings adjusted accordingly, you won't have to run full blast with the 55lb thrust motor. With the 45lb, even at its Highest setting, I feel the motor would be working too hard with your size boat. In the past, (when say fishing Cooper River Park), I've ran both my Bow and Transom TM simultaneously to get to a spot quicker. Both are 55lb Thrust TM and I personally would not downsize....even if the price was right.

Just my opinion,

thanks for the responses guys. the riptide is up for 500 obo. it was 700 for it new, and its been so good to me that i cant let it go for much less than that. id wouldnt even consider selling it if it was the foot model, having one would pretty much comlplete my setup.

Kyle
definitly get at least a 55, or even better get a 70. i might be getting a new tm soon if i do i will sell u my back up motor for dirt cheap. its a minnkota edge 55. i will let u know within a week or so.

Id love to have a 70 but i dont really wanna upgrade to a 24v system i like the simplicity I have now. It would probably involve constructing a battery box under the raised deck I just put it. But if you do end up getting a new motor ill buy the 55 in a heartbeat.
