Note: SJHT Tournament Cancelled due to Weather.com and NBC10 BS Forecast
In actuality, after reviewing that mornings potential of heavy rains, thunder\ligtening, and strong winds, the call was made to not go forward with this sanctioned event. Sorry to those who still came out but here is a quasi report after hanging around the boat launch area contemplating on heading out!!!
Let me setup the Intro. As I approach the WaWa for my morning cup of Jo, I get a phone call from my VP Jay who had been conferring with Big Al and Moe as to whether the weather (ie. potential Thunder\Lightening) would be too big of a risk for the SJHT members. I'm alway about safety and this was our 1st ever cancelled event due to weather. We've fish in tremendous 30-40mphs winds and rain out the ying yang, but we've seldom had to deal with constant Thunder and Lightening for most of the morning. So the call was made!!!
For those anglers that still showed up:
Rob "Ram1212" and Guest
TBoe and Trapper
Tim and Dale
Jiggen Den (arrived about 7:15amish)
and myself just to greet those I was unable to get a hold of.
Mulling around the ramp with barely any rain and the skies somewhat clearing, we all troll out towards the split and each head our own way. Not knowing how much fishing was going to be done, I kept the net fastened to the holder and proceeded to just fun fish. LOL!!! Started out throwing my long time favorite and goto bait the GY Blk\Blue Chart. Tail Kreature bait 1/8oz bullet weight towards the shore line and slowly retrieving back towards the boat. Boom!!!! A little guy is caught. Continuing to work towards areas not really a focus on other tournament days, I interestingly realize there are some good hidden pockets near the fallen trees and points (with adequate current flowing through) that were producing decent bass.
Next thing I know, Jiggen Den is calling saying that he cannot continue laying in bed and says he'll be there in 30 minutes!!! [smilie=2funny.gif]
As Jiggen Den stated, "Something made him get out of bed". LOL
!!!
I guess this little guy was the reason!!!!
WOW!!!! :o
Note: Pictured enlarged to capture weight on scale.
Even got weighed in!!! Look at the mouth on that beast!!!
Here is how my day somewhat went.
Anyway, having left the outboard motor home and planning on fishing the Game greek side, I proceeded to focus in the areas around the Y and left of the Y going towards the sportmens club. These little guys were found everywhere. Hence the snapshot to prove my point.
After focusing in the shallows, I placed my DS rigg and Jackall Flick-shake 4.8 worms to work. It produced this 14" right off the back.
These Canal Bass were very active even though we had heavy rains throughtout the night and morning.
You know..after being out on the water and only say 2-3 cracks of thunder\lightening in the sky, I still feel we made the right call in cancelling our tournament. It's better to be safe and live to fish another day, than say have anglers\members all spreadout and risk the chance in a disaster occuring.
Note: For the record, everyone.... especially GoneFishin should be delighted that his current record lunker of 4.35lbs is still standing. :D Jiggen Den would have taken that and possibly 1st place on Saturday.
