With the hint of fall right around the corner SJHT anglers were pumped and geared to go this morning....

Another decent turnout by the SJHT crew. Today, SJHT had 11 members come out to do battle and throw "GrandMaster" the movie type blades at Mercer Lake. Having switched this tournament from previously scheduled Lake Nockamixon in PA, Mercer lake was the first time SJHT had scheduled to fish this body of water. Very nice and clean lavatories and nice setup of concrete boat ramps and floating docks. Real nice by NJ standards!!!!

There were a total of 12 bass caught weighing a total of 19.93lbs . 3 members caught there limit of 3 Bass. 5 out of 11 anglers caught at least 1 bass. This gave way to avg. weight of 1.66lbs. Lunker Fish was noted and won by Bill *The Hammer* L. going l3.51lbs. Jimbo was runner-up for his lunker going a shy 3.07lbs

Let's give a big congrats for the third week in a row to Jimbo for taking 1st place with 3 Bass going 5.87lbs . 2nd Place was won by Bill *The Hammer* L. with 2 Bass going 5.54lbs Bill's lunker went 3.51lbs. 3rd Place was won by Brian *SubFish* M. with 3 Bass weighing 3.99lbs.

What can I say Jimbo!!!! Maybe you need to go back to being the baseball Commish!! LOL!!! Congrats Men on somewhat figuring what these tight lipped bass wanted on such a vast, open body of water with barely any wood structures or visible laydowns.

Jimbo's 1st place

Having never fished Mercer Lake, I was quite surprise at the various water levels and suddle drop offs toward the Northwestern side of the lake. Starting out throwing a SK Rattletrap with no love, I quickley busted out the wacky rig DS and began getting bluegill and dink size bass being caught. Today's bite was a bit tough as the bass were not really up close and tight to shore. They were 12'~15' off shore in the more depper water. Slow and laser point accurancy was what i found they wanted there bait presentation. Didn't catch my 1st and only keeper till 2hrs. into the tournament. I should have stayed in the area and fish through the smaller size bass. Oh well!

As the morning quickly turned into the afternoon, so did the other water craft users.

Mercer reminds me of Manasquan Res. with the Ranger\concession stand station, rental boats, kayakers, and activities going on along the sidelines. Once 12pm came, it became really hard to navigate the waterways where one was not getting interupted by a rower or someone casting from the shoreline.

All in all....still a great day to be on the water.

Thanks again to all of the SJHT members for coming out today. In 2 weeks...see you at the clubs regular season ending tournament D.O.D Lake.

Jimbo, the streak lives on. Nice job everybody who caught and placed. Tough day. I had 2 shorts early and that was all she wrote. Look forward to seeing everyone @ DOD.

Great post Rob! Im looking forward to DoD myself.

Note: Lets keep Jiggen Dens sister in prayer. I have not heard word on her condition. Im quite sure he'll update us when he gets a moment.

As we near Labor day weekend, I just wanted to wish everyone in advance a safe and joyous end to another crazy summer. I know some will be using this time to prefish for DoD and our end of season classic.....not too mention spending time with the family.

If you are traveling on the roadways, please be mindful of other drivers as there maybe some drinking this weekend.

Once Scooter is back from his Vegas Birthday weekend extravaganza, he'll update the sorted stats. The actual numbers behind the scenes have already been changed. The current view does not display Sundays stats.

Congrats Jimbo, job well done again! Would like a little report on your day on the water, if you would like to share. As for my sister, she had a test where they go into the artery in the groin area and I believe they put dye to see if there are any blockages that show up, well there were no blockages thank God, and the doctors think she was under a lot of stress! Stress can really do you in! Thanks for all your concern. Congrats to Bill on a nice lunker and 2nd place, and also to Brian on taking 3rd. Way to figure them out! I had one fish don't even know if it was a bass grab my worm after I tossed it in a flurry of bait fish jumping all over! Really curious on what depths and lures caught most fish.

Thanks Jiggin Den

Jimbo can I borrow you drop-shot rod and reel for DoD? It seems like the magic wand lately

Congrats to the fish catchers, tough day. BTW never ever listen to my lake reccomendations again.

Thanks! It's been really nice getting back out on the water with you guys!
First things first, Den good to hear that your sister is going to be fine!
Now to what you've all been waiting for... Mercy lake I mean Mercer lake. What can I say right time, right place, with the right bait. Not exactly... I started out the day looking for some idea on how to approach this new body of water. So I went right to my comfort zone DS docks, NO dice... OK Beat the bank with Jigs and senkos, NO dice... How about some open water squarebill cranks and chatter baits? NO NO NO...

Then it hit me like a ton of bricks! What would TBoe do? RED EYE... So I snipped off the chatter bait and tied on my trusty old friend red eye rattle trap in Bream! It only took a hand full of cast before I was reaping the rewards. Pulled in my first fish a solid little keeper that choked down my trap! I later found out that the fish was caught in about 2.5 feet of water! I work the point I caught that fish on for about 20 minutes then made a little move. After about a total of 30 minutes or so I returned to fish the point again. This time I found a better fish, my largest of the day! This fish was also caught in relatively shallow water. Needless to say I worked that area and a few similar areas pretty hard for the next few hours, with no reward!

By now my batteries where starting to show signs of fatigue... So I decided to start back toward the ramp area. I've been having issues with them for a little while now, and knew they wheren't going to last long... Knowing that I still needed another fish to have a chance to pull off the three-peat. I went back to my comfort zone DS... I spent the last hour or so of the Tournament dodging Paddleboats, novice kayackers, and a madman in a rented rowboat... Who tried ramming me more than once! So in true SJHT "Never give up" fashion I put my head down and kept fishing! With only 15 minutes remaining in the tourney I got a pick up on the DS... nothing supple about it, this fish wasn't happy about being hooked! he fought like a fish twice his size, and what added to the excitement was the small band of anglers cheering me on from the bank... After landing my final fish I made my way through the unruly traffic which now clogged the ramp area.

As the day was progressing I could hear how tough it was out there. Everyone was complaining how stingy the fish where being. So I knew I had a chance! But What did Jackson have? I know Dan and Brian (subfish) had three fish each, but would they have enough to catch me? Then I saw Bill(the Hammer) pull a 3.51lbs toad from his bag, which quickly dismissed my hopes of capturing another Lunker crown! But what else did he have? Then he pull a solid 2lber out next... Oh No, did I get sniped by the Hammer? No for today the Fish gods smiled apon me once again! As bill had no more fish to bring to the scale. It was going to be close. I knew I had over 5lbs of fish, but how much over 5lbs? I quickly flopped my largest fish in the weight bag... 3.07lbs, not bad, all I needed now is another 2.5lbs! Well lucky enough for me they weight 2.8lbs and I narrowly squeaked by Bill for the victory...

BTW Rattle trap fish where caught throwing to shallows and reeling toward the drop offs... hmmmSo I'm figuring that they where sitting on the down slope waiting for the bait to come from the shallows... OR they where just wandering around the shallows looking for a meal... I forgot to ask them! 2angry

Got my two bass on a half ounce light blue jig with a fat albert twin trailer (sapphire) by the dam and in weeds by the dam. Also had one fish two pounds get off at the boat on a spinner bait with a swimbait trailer.
