Had a small turn out at Newton. Weather cooperated, but got a bit hot late morning. Not sure exactly how many fish were caught, but there were quite a few limits caught. Congrats to Rob for taking a close first place win with 7.09 lb limit. Second place was won by Chris Palmer, with 7.08 lb limit! Wow! I believe Bill "fishintroop" took 3rd and lunker of 3.44? Sorry if any of this info is incorrect, but without the tourn sheet, this is the best I can remember. I started out early hooking up on a frog, which felt real nice but again came off after about 5 seconds of being hooked! tried flipping here and there in all that matted crap and again hooked another that got off. finally catch a 1.63 near the second bridge, and 1 short after that and that was it. kept up with the frog but I believe Chris pulled all of them out with his frog!!!LOL Again as John mentioned clean your trailers off of any of the hydrilla or weeds that may have attached to your trailers while retreiveing you boats. If transported to another lake it can root itself and grow like wild fire and we will have another "newton". Any other members that fished Newton feel free to post you day on the water!

Congrats to rob and troop, you owe me one rob lol!!!! Good to get out and see some of you guys.... Due to work and family issues fishing has been on the back burner. Just like Den said I caught 11 bass all on frogs by the second bridge in a small grass matt about 60 yards big crazy how they stack up it only lasted maybe 30 40 min then it was over the rest of the day had no bites .... Great day on the water hopefully I'll get out again soon !!!! |

Started off with a Gambler Cane Toad over the matted pads and duck weed and got my first fish. Saw a small opening between the pads with timber and brush on the first creek arm I came to and tossed a wacky rigged senko which is where I got my lunker (3.74). After that had something break off on the hook set and another eat 3/4 of a worm but not get the hook. Couldn't get anything flipping all day. Watches the pollen and algae make its way in from the first bridge and covered up some water by the time I wanted to go back and flip some earlier cover that was clear. |

Pics are on robs phone. trapper did take them.
Congrats to Rob on his 1st win. Knew you were gonna be alright when u got that 3rd keeper. I got the curse of the 1st cast catching a dink, then it was rat city all morning. Hooked up with a donkey around 8 but it was mr carrrp he got off before I could snap a pic. Made a move and struggled up until 11 when I put my bigger fish in the boat. Grinded out that pattern for the rest of the day with nothing to show for it. Then at 12:27 I got my look what I found 12"er hail marying a senko at the ramp.... See everyone at Maskills

Now that I'm back in the sunny side state lets get this report started.

Newton Lake proved to be another tough day for most anglers. Although alot of the Algae blooms had been removed in the past weeks, there remains a consistant growth problem which makes trolling through the muck that much harder and killing the TM batteries. Saturday was another day to be out on the water. From the brief reports I recieved, the pockets of algae went from the playground almost back towards the dam area. Would love to hear where most anglers had more nibbles on there lure of choice and was it an early or late bite. If water temps can be provided that would be nice too.
Thanks again to all of the SJHT members and guest for coming out on Saturday. Great job Jay, Jiggen Den, John, and Rob on the pics and results.
Nice write-up Jiggen Den and input by the rest of the crew!!!
See ya next week at Maskells Mills.
Next Up: Maskells Mills club event Sun. August 04, 2013.

Thanks Everybody!
Congrats to Chris and Troop as well. Chris, thanks for making my first win the closest it could possibly be. Dan, also a nice job on your 12:27pm fish, have to love that!
I caught all my keeper fish on a beaver. I had my middle fish under the first bridge towards the playground early, by 7am I would say. Got to the playground and didn't feel like cleaning the weeds every cast if the fish weren't biting which they weren't for me. Decided to head all the way to the dam where I have never been before. Caught my last two keepers there, slinging my lunker off the boat, back into the water and back in the boat again. Knucklehead.
Around 12pm I got a burst of action and caught my last keeper. Somehow I knew I needed him to be in it, but didn't realize how much I actually needed that 3rd!
See everyone next week.

Nice reports men! This is what I like after a tourn. All of us posting what happened out there and sharing a bit of information, that's what makes this club a fun club to be in! It's also interesting to know if you were doing everything wrong or using the wrong baits, or just not finding the right pattern.
