Well...Well...Well Mr. Anderson! The Oracle aka "Momma Nasty" always said that once you've taken enough of arse whoopins...you better throw up the dukes and fight back! or else deal with me!!! LOL!!
Today, the fist went up, the mind was focus on catching a bigger Bass than Jackson no less weighing in first official Tournament Bass of the 2013 season, but like Michigan, the Okey Doke came out of no-where and what a weigh-in. FFX...how ya like these puppies? The Flats have nothing on Lums Ponds!!! LOL
Alright without further adieu, lets give a shoutout to all 12 members and our guest Sam F. (brother of Crappie Jon) on coming out and getting Bass Dirty with the rest of us on an on again...off again wind pattern and air temperature that made figuring out the bass very tricky.
More to come on the pattern and interesting observations.
Congrats goes out to the Silent Assassin once again Jackson F. for taking 1st and Lunker with 3 Bass going a Whoppin 13.18lbs with a kicker going 5.98lbs. 2nd Place was narrowly won by our 2012 AOY Jay *SmellyHooker* N. with 3 Bass going 9.55lbs. 3rd Place was taken by the one who's been getting slabbed around and finally manned up by catching 3 Bass weighing 9.35lbs with his Lunker going 4.93lbs. Congrats men on catching a 3 Bass Limit weighing ove 9lbs each.
1st and Lunker: Jackson F.
2nd Place: Jay *SmellHooker* N.:
and Smokey as BN06 3rd Place:

LUMS Pond Tale of Tape:
Other Notable anglers catches:
White Mike:
Jiggen Den's 3 Bass Limit:
SJHT Guest Sam F. and his 3 Bass Limit:
John N. 3 Bass Limit:
Trappers bass:
There were a total of 23 Bass caught weighing 53.70lbs in all. This gave an avg weight per Bass of 2.33lbs. 6 out of 13 anglers reached there 3 Bass Limit 10 out of 13 weighed in at least 1 Bass.
Back to my observations and patterns. Knowing that it rain horribly last night and a cold front had came through, I knew the water temps should be near that magic mark of Mid 60's (which it was). I Picked up first Bass going over 3.5lbs around 7:13am on a Jackall 4.8" Flickshake tossed off a point from a shallow to Mid-drop off. Bass slurp the lure and just began swimming off. Had numerous more taps along this shoreline. As the wind picked up and anglers were scrambling for protected coves and points, it seemed the Bass wanted things very slow and almost delayed. As I see Action Jackson begin to slay bass over the railings, I said to myself like Smokey, Stand up for something or Fall for anything. LOL!!! I made an immediate changeup and reflected on my Fall Smith Mountain Lake trip where I lost a motherload. I rigged up a terminator jig in a peanut butter Jelly and watermelon trailer. Yeah.. I know. What a combination? LOL!! (since I didn't have a Tboe Crustable)
and they were in this type of cover.....
Less than 1' of water...
As the wind increased even more as the day went on, instead of hiding in coves and out of the open, I stayed out in the open and went toe to toe with mother nature. Take that!
Young bucks...good luck and share your day on the water with others... Each one...Teach one!!
Tightlines,

Congrats to Jackson on a superb bag!!!! Wow! Me a Jackson had the same idea first thing in the morning and headed towards the small cove to the right off the boat docks. He fished the right side and I fished the left both heading towards the little walk bridge with a little pond on the other side. Jackson got there first. Then as we exchanged eye contact a few times I picked up my first keeper of the year!!! small but a keeper. Had another come unbuttoned and said I am on to something. Well I left that cove and moved to another stretch of bank with not even a pick-up. Decided to go back to the cove and picked up my 2nd 2.98. Then it was a task at least for me to get my 3rd keeper with came in the last 1/2 hour.
caught 2 on jig a 2 on finesse worms. congrats to Jay and Big Nasty on very impressive bags!! This lake holds some nice fish!!! Congrats to Dan's guest on his 3 keepers, and all the rest that caught fish!!!

Thanks Murphy... The bite started out slow but once lure change was made which brought on more confidence, it became a matter of getting fish like the one already in the livewell.

Thanks guys, just lucky I guess.
As Den said I started where he was with less sucess. since it was my first time there, I explored a bit and went all the way to the back north west part of the lake. Found a bunch of shorts and missed hook sets on what I assume where more shorts. I worked my way back looking for a little deeper water and mainly somehwere to hide from the wind. Once I past BN I settled on a calm area and started catching keepers off the wood. BN and I mainly worked just a 50ft section passing each other a few times back and forth. All the big girls came from that area. |
