Did the conditions suck, or was it the fishing that sucked?

went to Parvin the other day and had a hell of a time. What I mean is The fish were more active then I have ever seen, any where I guess the storm really turned on that lake. I saw monster bass jumping out of the water.( BIG BASS ) The storm changed the lake now there are four or five chunks of logs/debris that have been washed in almost as if they were placed there. They follow the channel all the way to the dam this made for some fun fishing. Isolated structure in or near deep water as the lake was being drained and already about a foot lower then normal. I pitched a black and red jig with a blue green craw I tossed it close to the structure and about 5' from the structure I would only be about two shakes in after it hit bottom if it hit at all. when I say this I know people are going to say bullshit but I lost at least 25 fish easy, out of that I saw about 10 of them before they spit the hook. They were all 5lbs or better and a couple that felt and looked like they were close to ten lbs. Now I know they always seem bigger so lets say 8lbs but still that is bigger then what I thought was in there. So I had trouble getting my jig to set I ended up rigging a trailer hook through the end of my craw and barely skinned it this only worked because I was fishing just off of cover and not in it. I ended up with one in the boat 15" before the wife called saying she was sick I had only been on the lake for an hour from about 7 7:30 so I'm sure if I could have stayed longer and kept fishing from one structure to the other I would had a real nice bag but life happens. Oh I also landed a 26" snot rocket yeah. happy fishing gents see you all at mirror.

Good stuff Dale!!
Sounds like the bite was definitely on for you!!! With all of the rain and new structure that floated into Parvin's, I was wondering how things had changed a bit.
Thanks for the report. Sorry you had to cut short your trip. Hopefully there will be plenty more.

dale u have to be the luckiest man in the world to hook 25 bass, 10 of which were over 5lbs, and the most unlucky man in the world to lose all of them before they got to the boat. |

Wait I just caught that you said "as the lake was being drained". It's not being completely drained is it?
Not completely drained but they were letting a lot of water out. |

That's what I'm saying. I know it sounds like bullshit but I swear something was up with that lake that day. Since then I have made it my mission to learn how to set the hook with that jig. One problem I had was the weed guard was really long and stiff, so I trimmed it and thinned it out that helped at oak pond seemed as if the hook up was easier. Only got one keeper there but hopefully I figured out the problem. |

yea i always trim and thin out the weed gaurds on all of my jigs. it definitly helps make the hook set easier, but if u make it too thin u will hang up more too. |

Well I wouldn't use it in heavy cover' more like right up close to it. I did thin it out to much |
